About the Author
RAYMOND PARNES is a Professor in the Department of Solid Mechanics, Materials and Structures in Tel-Aviv University. A graduate of Columbia University, he has over 25 years experience of teaching the subject in the United States, Europe and Israel and has published extensively in a variety of subjects in Solid Mechanics.

1Wrong answers everywhere

Solid Mechanics is a difficult subject, so if you have a subpar teacher, you hope for a good textbook. Well, this book is definitely not it. It is beyond horrible. Not only is it hugely confusing, the questions are decisively more advanced than the examples given. It has over 500 pages, yet it feels worthless. In the second chapter alone I came across multiple instances of the answers on the back of the book being woefully wrong. It wouldnt be a stretch to state that a quarter of all exercises for each chapter had a wrong answer written at the back of the book. If your professor assigns this book as your text, the professor is definitely bad, and I suggest you get something else to supplement the gaping hole of information this book will leave you.

5excellent book

I'm a 2nd year undergraduate student of Mechanical Engineering and this is our course text book.
It's certainly a challenging book and extremely thorough, often beyond the scope of a 1 semester course in Strength of Materials. However it is a trusty guide and I came looking for it here on Amazon because I'm hoping to buy it. (Though 80$ is quite expensive for a student right now).

1Comparing this with Lord of the Rings

About the same thickness as Lord of the Rings but comes with less content. I would NOT recommend this to my worst enemy. I have seen shorter explanations with more clarity. This is not a book that a student can trust because there are so many errors. I am not happy having spent quite a bit of money for this book.
