Book Description

An up-to-date and practical reference book on piping engineering and stress analysis, this book emphasizes three main concepts: using engineering common sense to foresee a potential piping stress problem, performing the stress analysis to confirm the problem, and lastly, optimizing the design to solve the problem. Systematically, the book proceeds from basic piping flexibility analyses, spring hanger selections, and expansion joint applications, to vibration stress evaluations and general dynamic analyses. Emphasis is placed on the interface with connecting equipment such as vessels, tanks, heaters, turbines, pumps and compressors. Chapters dealing with discontinuity stresses, special thermal problems and cross-country pipelines are also included. The book is ideal for piping engineers, piping designers, plant engineers, and mechanical engineers working in the power, petroleum refining, chemical, food processing, and pharmaceutical industries. It will also serve as a reference for engineers working in building and transportation services. It can be used as an advance text for graduate students in these fields.

5Best book available on the topic - with room for improvement
By Robert Weyer
Undoubtedly the best pipe stress book available commercially. What is really good about it is that this is not just one of those piping books where they basically reprint the design equations from the code and give a few explanations.

I especially liked the separate chapters devoted to the interfaces with stationary and rotating equipment as in the real world these are usually the limiting factors in piping design.

There is also thorough treatment of the background theory behind piping design. He also provides a number of real life case studies on failures that occured due to issues that are very non-intuitive.

The book could be improved by having more focus on use of computer packages for stress analysis. One glaring omission from the book is that it ignores the fact that the piping codes make no allowance for branch flexibilities, whereas they do exist in real life and on larger lines they can help a lot. There are methods available to include branch flexibilities but they are not mentioned or dealt with in the book.

5Pipe Stress Engineering
By Mr
I purchased this book as I was working on a complex project that has many different pipe sizes and pressures and unusual materials.
At first I was unsure if I had actually picked the correct book but as I started working through the book the amount of detail presented in this book is great, very clear formulae abound throughout the book.
The level of detail continues throughout the volume with pipe line design stress analysis, pipeline flexibility and more

Well worth the cost

5excellent ref
By Stu Watson
Liang-Chuan Peng is an expert of experts in the this arena.. think classical music and you think Mozart or Beet-master
- if your starting or ongoing with a lot of stress analysis this is a must have reference!

Goes hand in hand with the KBR reference - I use both of these frequently when teaching and resolving stress issues..
