5Unless You're a Do-It-Yourself Nut
By Joseph A. Meeker
One problem with masonry is that a beginner or fool can easily botch a $5K excavation effort. Here is a fine tool to allow you to estimate the price of beauty in the form of detailed patternwork for masonry walls, abutments, and other appurtenances made of durable masses of the vitreous and the cementitious. You might be able to afford to have the work done by skilled workers; worth a look. The book includes a CD ROM.

5The ultimate contractor's pricing companion
By D. Donovan, Editor/Sr. Reviewer
Estimate labor hours and material costs for all kinds of concrete and masonry work with the 2006 NATIONAL CONCRETE & MASONRY ESTIMATOR: a cd/book package filled with tips on how to produce quick, accurate cost estimates. Contractors are well aware that estimations can use up hours of bidding time: here it's advised the material lists be developed only when the contract is obtained - and chapters provide all the formulas necessary to produce quick calculations based on the latest prices. Author Dan Atcheson is the son of an architect who began his career as a teen, working at most of the construction trades until he added estimating to his skills. Chapters for each projected job divide into columns figures for labor, materials, and units and provide a manual which can easily be used as a company price book. Very highly recommended - and the interactive cd is set up to make expert to Quickbooks a snap, too!

5Incredible Amount Of Concrete & Masonry Prices
By George King
I'm totally blown away by the amount of prices and details available in this huge reference of concrete and masonry prices. Just about every type of material I've used in my 30-something years as a mason are listed here -- plus some that I've never seen before. The prices seem pretty accurate too. With the monthly updates, the whole kit and kaboodle is a good bargain for the money, especially if it saves you money on jobs you've never done before and have no idea how to price.
